ABOUT US
In the autumn of 1976 the idea of Troy Players was born when a series of play-readings was held at the Troy Art Club. This was so much enjoyed by some people that when the series finished Ursula Bond-Taylor suggested that it might be a good idea to form a Drama Group. Others thought so too, and a notice was displayed in a local shop (Dolphin Dairy) to advertise a meeting to explore local interest. Only a few people attended the meeting, but a core of five determined to go ahead. Ursula Bond-Taylor, who had suggested the formation of the group, was chairwoman. Ursula was a professionally trained ballet dancer, but had no straight acting experience. . . . . .

Since 1976 we have aimed to stage at least four diverse productions each year, offering a wide variety of entertainment, including drama – modern day and costume, comedies, thrillers, farce, and shows. We also stage some productions with the profits from the run going to charity.   Although we are an amateur group we consider our audiences to be paramount and therefore we always do our utmost to present them with as professional a performance as possible each and every time.  Planning and staging a production is a team effort. There are many facets to staging a production and what the audience sees is the culmination of the input of a great many people. We are always on the lookout for new members of all ages, enthusiasm and a willingness to have a go is the only requirement.

The social side of the Troy Players is another of the ‘fun’ parts and we organise events and outings for our members.  Some of these include a ‘Christmas Extravaganza’, normally a themed dinner /  evening.  A boat trip up the river, when we picnic on the way up and stop at the pub for further refreshments.  These together with as many outings as members want.  Over the  past few years we have had a tour of the Hall for Cornwall which included  all the ‘back stage’ stuff.  Coach trips to various productions at the Minac, again including much picnicking and the odd glass of wine!
